Course Content Review Policy.
How we keep every course accurate, current and in line with UK law and guidance, and how quickly we correct errors.
About this policy
Elearnment Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17458288). We provide online training under the Good Food Hygiene brand, at goodfoodhygiene.co.uk. Our courses teach people how to keep food, workplaces and colleagues safe, so what they teach has to be accurate, current and in line with UK law and guidance. This policy sets out how we check that, how often, and what we do when something needs to change.
What counts as course content
Everything a learner sees or relies on:
- lessons, topics and their written content
- images, diagrams and their text descriptions
- practice games and their answers
- assessment question banks, correct answers and the explanation given for each answer
- the “Remember” summaries at the end of topics
- course pages, course descriptions and certificate wording
- every translated version of all of the above
Where our content comes from
Content is written against recognised UK sources, including:
- UK legislation, as published on legislation.gov.uk
- the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland, including Safer Food, Better Business
- the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
- the Equality and Human Rights Commission, for equality content
- recognised UK first aid guidance, for first aid content
Where the four UK nations differ — for example on chilled food temperatures — the course says so.
Scheduled review
Every course is reviewed in full at least once every 12 months. The review checks that:
- the law and guidance it relies on are still current
- every assessment question tests something the lessons actually teach
- every correct answer is still correct, and its explanation still accurate
- no question in a free practice course repeats a question from the paid course
- images and diagrams still match the text, and each has a description for screen readers
- the translations still match the English version
Reviews triggered by events
We do not wait for the scheduled review if something changes. A course is reviewed straight away when:
- a law, regulation or official guidance it covers changes
- a complaint or appeal about its content is upheld
- learner feedback points to something unclear or wrong
- our assessment data shows a problem — for example a question that most learners answer wrong, which can mean the question or the lesson needs rewriting
- anyone finds an error
How quickly we act
- Safety-critical errors — content that could lead someone to handle food or work unsafely — are corrected, or the affected content is withdrawn, within 2 working days of being found.
- Other errors are corrected within 20 working days.
- Changes in law or guidance are reflected before they come into force where the change is announced in advance, and otherwise as soon as possible.
How changes are made
- The change is written and checked against its source.
- Assessment questions linked to the changed content are checked, so a question never tests something the course no longer teaches.
- The same change is made in every translated version and checked.
- The Director approves the change before it goes live.
- The change is recorded in the course change log: the date, what changed, why, and who approved it.
Learners who have already finished
A certificate records what a learner completed at the time, so ordinary updates do not affect certificates already issued. If a correction affects safety, we tell learners who completed the course in the previous 12 months what has changed.
Using feedback and results
We use three sources of evidence alongside the scheduled review: learner evaluation forms, complaints and appeals, and the pattern of answers to each assessment question. The Director looks at these at least every three months.
Records
Review records and the change log are kept for as long as the course is offered, and for 3 years after it is withdrawn.
Responsibility and review
The Director of Elearnment Ltd is responsible for this policy and for approving every content change. The policy itself is reviewed every year.
